Help Build a Community: Support Perry Street Empowerment
We’re rebuilding Pontiac from the inside out.
Perry Street Empowerment is a team of local contractors, mentors, and community partners who believe that the people who live in Pontiac should also be the people who build Pontiac.
Every day, we meet residents who are ready to work but lack access to training, tools, and opportunity. At the same time, millions of dollars in development are planned in and around our city—but too often, those jobs and contracts go to companies and workers from outside the community.
We’re changing that.
What Your Donation Supports
Your contribution helps us:
-
Train local residents in skilled trades
Carpentry, demolition, painting, roofing, lead abatement, safety, and more. -
Run pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs
Including OSHA 30, CPR, construction basics, and hands-on training on real projects. -
Support justice-impacted and low-income residents
In partnership with Michigan Works, Goodwill, E-Community Services, and others, we help remove barriers like transportation, documentation, and wraparound needs. -
Build a local contractor & worker registry
So developers can easily hire Pontiac-based contractors and Section 3 workers to meet local hiring goals. -
Create real pipelines to real jobs
We connect residents with developers, unions, and local businesses that are ready to hire.
Your support doesn’t just fund a program—it funds a pathway out of poverty and into a career.
Why This Matters Now
Pontiac is entering a new phase of development:
-
Downtown revitalization projects
-
A new youth center
-
Infrastructure and corridor improvements
-
New housing and commercial construction
These projects will require hundreds of skilled workers. If we don’t prepare our residents now, those jobs and contracts will be filled by people who don’t live here.
Perry Street Empowerment is building the bridge between development and community, making sure residents are trained, contractors are supported, and developers can easily meet local hiring, Section 3, and community benefit goals.
Closing Call to Action
When you give to Perry Street Empowerment, you are:
-
Helping a young person choose a trade over the streets
-
Helping a justice-impacted resident re-enter the workforce
-
Helping a small local contractor grow and meet city requirements
-
Helping make sure new development actually benefits the people who live here
